This afternoon I was getting lunch at the local Chinese take-out place and there was a construction worker already in there waiting for his order. When I have Chinese food I try to at least go for items semi-healthy to combat the high amounts of grease and oils that are normally doused in those dishes. Naturally, this guy was waiting on the typical "go-to" for Chinese as in the four fried chicken wings with french fries.
The lunch special includes a choice of choice of a soup or a can of soda, so since he didn't look like a soup-eater, I expected him to elect for the soda, and he did. Now came the choice. In many cases, when you see someone order something horrible they tend to get a diet soda, as if that's going to magically eliminate the bad food they're about to eat. I usually order diet sodas as well, but I wouldn't have it as a life preserver along with something like the fried wings and fries platter. This guy didn't follow suit, not only did he want a coco-cola, but he wanted the regular version, not the diet.
I was both surprised and glad he went that route. Not only is he recognizing that what he's eating is terrible, and a diet soda more or less isn't going to make the slightest difference in this scenario, but along with the fat and cholesterol, why not go for the trifecta and have a ton of sugar as well. Go all in or don't go at all, good for him...
